Friday afternoon, you’re at work and the end of the day is near, time is going by, everything is going accordingly to plan, you see it is sprinkling and it’s a bit chilly, as you prepare your Friday night you arrange to go home, take a nice warm shower, make dinner… or get take-out and relax for the night. It takes a 20min train ride and a 5min walk until you finally reach paradise. You steadily unlock each lock and enter in bliss… lying on the couch your blackberry decides to ring…

“Are you still coming to the party tonight?” utters the voice on the other side,

“Yeah I’ll be there what time do we have to be there?

To your shock you gaze at the clock and it is already 6:30! You rush into he shower forget the fact that you haven’t shaved your legs or washed your hair in 2 days but still end up looking clean. As you approach your wardrobe you wonder what to wear, you check the weather outside and it is clear to you that it is raining and it is a bit chilly.

The fashion community came to a halt today when it lost one of its icons, Alexander McQueen.

Known for his aesthetically striking and daring creations, Alexander McQueen was known as a revolutionary designer who came to define the world of fashion in the 21st century. Most would have heard of Alexander McQueen through the equally theatrical Lady Gaga who wore his designs in her video clip for the cult pop hit Bad Romance.

If anyone knew how to turn heads, it was Alexander McQueen.

The girls at Saxonne want to pay their respects to the legendary designer and the many loved ones he left behind. This man was an inspiration and we’re sad to see him leave us at far too young an age. The fashion world will not be the same without him.

There’s a buzz of excitement building in the world of ice and snow with the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. The opening ceremony this weekend is sure to draw in audiences from all over the world. The Winter Olympics may not be as popular as its counterpart, but it is definitely glamorous (well, maybe not so much the curling event).

With opening ceremony costumes and over-the-top sequin figure skating outfits, what the athletes wear is a hot topic. Johnny Weir, three-time US figure skating champion, angered animal advocacy groups last month with his fox fur costume. Russian figure skaters have recently had to change their Aboriginal-costumes completely after they offended some communities. But with Vera Wang and Ralph Lauren designing the costumes for some US teams, the catwalk of ice and snow is sure to turn heads.

Seeing red is a natural occurance at this time of year. That’s right , you heard it from it us – the buzz of valentine’s day. And so there are two sides of the argument where Valentine’s Day is an overrated, commercial statement of love which should be celebrated on a daily basis regardless of the date. On the other side it’s the one day out of 365 we live, the one and only chance to confess your undying love for the other.

So the question I have for you, my fashionistas, is how do we react to this? How does this date affect you, your life, your reflection and representation of yourself? Do you dress accordingly? Do you embrace it? And are you seeing red?

Today I’m taking the time out to invite you to delay the rush. To take in all that is around us, the sounds of far away cars, sweet birds in the background and more familiar sounds of the unattended radio. Putting the threads, needles and silky garments away, we’re being in the moment. A moment is too short lived to be rushed – otherwise you’ll miss it.

It has been a long time since we graced our blog with a post and i find it only fitting that i provide you with an update on all that is Saxonne.

Since we last spoke, Saxonne has reached new heights with the release of our Autumn/Winter collection, The Adorned (available Feb). Keeping true to the Saxonne aesthetic, each piece in The Adorned features exquisite fabrication and ornate embellishment. As i began writing this, i started to reminisce on the past year since Saxonne's conception in February 2009. It is undeniably obvious that we at Saxonne love a little bling and we have carried this through our collections. But they couldnt be more different from each other. From pastels and pop brights in the Karma collection to noirs and creams in the current, Saxonne is changing forever changing.
